I love beautiful classic coins that are gold or silver. It is said the Saint-Gaudens $20 gold piece is the most beautiful. I see many others including the 1916 trio. The Draped Bust dollars also impress me as coins that just knock me out maybe due to the age and maybe the form. Which coins flip your switch? If I were just interested in investing I would just buy bullion.

All three of the Indian gold are beautiful.
The most beautiful, usually disregarded, are the classic silver commemoratives.

To me... Classic coins are different in eye appeal, when they have more detail. Starting around VF or XF with uncirculated being beautiful coins.. I find Barber and Seated coins very beautiful in AU or better. Draped Bust coins would be my favorite .. but uncirculated examples are above my price range. I agree that gold Indians are some of my favorite design. Along with Indian Head cents and Indian head nickels. As for the commemorative classic designs ... some of them are very beautiful coins .. like the Texas or Oregon Trail ... but some of them are very poor designed coins. My suggestion. Would be to put a U.S. Type set together .. .. that way you could have a example of most.

I like the Peace dollars myself. Full details, but toned black are my favorite.

If you ever get a SLQ in AU or better condition you will see a beautiful coin that is known only to collectors. I bet you could show the SLQ, LWH or Mercury dime to those under 40 and they would not even recognize them as US coins. Even the Buffalo nickel is a wonderful coin when you see one in decent condition especially an early one. All the early 20th century gold knocks me out.

Many of the classics previously mentioned are beautiful. Personally, a Mercury dime in AU or MS is a sight to behold.

Unpopular opinion: Seated coins in VF with circcam look extremely nice. I would have to say the DB design. Half Dimes are really nice in AU and not too expensive, if you have good eyesight they are the coin for you.

If you can afford them, quarter eagles and half eagles from 1813 to 1834.

Once you get into Ancient Greek coins, US coins no longer can hold the title for "most beautiful," save for a few commemorative silver halves and the 1907 UHR Double Eagle.

I am a huge fan of Newfoundland half dollars, I know we are on the USA form so my next pick would be Morgans, if Peace dollars were struck better they would be my top choice easily. Liverpool.
