I have read many posts regarding Dansco not updating older coin album and have seen many out of stock designation at multiple online vendors for various Dansco albums. I talked to one retailer who was pessimistic about the ability to obtain Dansco products in the future. What are your plans for future coins if Dansco does indeed leave the market? It seems Dansco has the best (or at least a very good) reputation. I have one Dansco album for my American Silver Eagles (and I like how it looks) but have been stymied looking for several other album types. I don't really want to start an album that might not every be updated. I know ebay is always an alternative, but for how long can that source fill the needs of collectors?

May be a good idea to buy a bunch and hold onto some of those albums for the future. They are very high quality albums so I am sure they would still be popular many years down the road.

What does ANY collector do for items they collect for which no album is available? Think medals, tokens, bullion rounds or bars, 5oz. coins, etc.

I have all the Dansco albums I want, so I guess I am okay. But for the sake of future generations, I present the same solution I offered before... Dansco, the company, needs to sell the coin album business to Whitman. Then Whitman can contract Dansco to make the albums as they always have, while Whitman handles the design/layout, marketing, and distribution. I am speculating, but I think Dansco would rather be handed the specs and make the product. They do not want to be involved in the parts of the album business.

I have always associated Whitman with the low cost coin folders many of us used for our first coin collections (often cents). I still have mine. I have not associated Whitman with high quality albums like I do Dansco. The blue just doesn't scream quality like faux leather JMHO Perhaps they deserve another look. Or I will have to raid the cookie jar to finance that CAPS album of Air-tites I have been drooling over. Thanks for all the input and responses.

kanga, I have read conflicting reviews on Intercept Albums. Are you happy with them? I know if that is all you have, it is hard to make a comparison.
I have one Dansco and one Littleton. Each has its own merits, but I have to go with the Dansco for overall quality. They just look of higher quality. But I still enjoy my Littleton 20th Century Type album.
Do not wish to start a war, JMHO.

If Dansco gets out of coin albums, I will probably go back to Whitman for my future albums. I probably won't switch all my current albums to Whitman cause that would be a lot of wasted money to replace perfectly good albums.
My collection was in Whitman folders when I first tried switching to albums. I tried Whitman albums at first, but some of the coins they included or excluded didn't fit with my idea of a "collection". That's why I switched to Dansco albums.

I have a Whitman Classic album for my Sacagawea dollars. I also have a Littleton album for my State Quarters. Then I have a bunch of Dansco albums. I prefer Dansco and like jbuck I pretty much have what I need. But, the Whitman Classic albums are a close second. I'm not fond of the Littleton album at all.

Quote: I have not associated Whitman with high quality albums like I do Dansco. The blue just doesn't scream quality like faux leather Like so many others they prefer that book look. However, then they hide them away so how they look makes little difference. Worse thing about Whitman is they are made in China where as Dansco is made in the USA. I wonder what will happen with Trump's trying to change all that. If you look up Coin Albums in Google you would fined many other brands. It is odd though that Whitman no longer makes the ones that used to be called USMint Albums.

Good idea jbuck.
I was annoyed by not being able to get new pages I needed for my Dansco albums as well so I made the switch to the new CAPS albums. I have 17 of them currently. Expensive investment but I am very happy with my changeover. I still have several Danscos I still use and will keep but other than they take up a LOT more space I like the CAPS.

I have been moving away from Dansco for a long time, but not because I don't like Dansco, but because what I collect has changed.
For the items I want in an album, Intercept Shield has done very well for me, as has Dansco. I have never liked Whitman much. Neither have I liked Littleton. When I purchase other people's albums, Littleton is usually the most toned, followed by Whitman, then Dansco and then Intercept is the least. But that is just my experience.
CAPS albums are very expensive, but by far my favorite, since they use airtites. And they let you customize your albums when you order. Want to collect variations? You can. Do you not want variations? You don't have to have them.
I don't care for albums because I have to follow their decisions. Do I want a 22 no D lincoln? Maybe, maybe not. But can I handle having a hole in my book? No.
If Dansco stops making, maybe I will finally be able to sell my extra Danscos and slip covers!
