I am looking to sell silver coins for a family member. I want to get her top dollar as her husband passed and these were his coins he hoarded for years. What are reasonable prices to ask for them? I was thinking these rates:

Walking Liberty halves: 17x face
Franklin halves: 16x face
Kennedy 90% halves: 16x face
40% kennedy: $3 each
Standing Liberty quarters (dateless): 16.5x face
Washington quarters: 15x face
Mercury dimes: 15x face
Roosevelt dimes: 14.5x face
War Nickels: $1.50ea

Are these okay?

Thanks for any/all help

I doubt you'll get 16.5X face from worn out dateless Standing quarters, they are pretty much just melt value (about $3.31 a piece same as any other junk quarter). Coins should be separated into junk silver and ones like the walkers or mercury that could have numismatic value. Junk War Nickels are about $1 a piece, but might go for more if they are not completely worn out. To check numismatic coin prices, go to the numismedia website. Of course, this would require you to grade the coins first.

Some of the mercs are in fine-xf condition but nothing mint state. The Washington quarters some of the 1963/64 quarters are in au plus condition with luster. Same with Roosevelt dimes.

There are too many coins to grade, that is why I priced them the way I did. Since there is a chance some will be in a condition better than your typical junk coins

The RB has a page for that. In general, what ever current silver is going for. Let say 10x face,so a silver dime is worth $1.00,quarter $2.50 etc.

Just as something to compare to.. I just sold a bunch of silver halves/quarters for 14x on the forum here. You may be able to get more, but I would not expect much more than 15x face as that is about what they go for on ebay but you get much less with all the fees. Good luck!

Right now, silver spot is 13.3x face. I agree that your prices are slightly above what market price seems to be. For a further comparison, there is a post in the sale section here selling uncirculated rolls of Rooosevelts for 14x face. A War Nickel has slightly over a buck in silver, but the consensus on the forums here is that not many people would pay near spot since War Nickels are harder to refine, and therefore fetch less from refineries. The way to get the most money out of it would be to sort through the collection, regardless of size, and hope there are errors or varieties mixed in.

If you sell on ebay just remember the fees you'll have to pay.

You'll sell the coins for more than melt on ebay, but you will probably end up with less than melt after ebay and PayPal fees.

I think you qualify to try and sell them here - NO FEES.

Without trying to sound like a pitchman, prices are down to 14x again. I've been keeping an eye on junk silver for a friend, but he ended up going with a large supplier online. He got it for $14.05 on the dollar, I believe.

[edit: I wanted to add to OP that if you do decide to sell on ebay, don't sell as junk silver. I'm seeing listings for maybe three mercs at a price that should net the seller 1.5-2x face, and some sell. At that point, you're playing the odds for a collector who needs a certain date. I believe this will take longer to sell, if you're not in a rush. As junk, your best bet might be here.]

Thanks all for your help and advice. It is hugely appreciated. She is a widow and doesn't know much about coins, so while she doesn't have an attachment to them I am trying my best to get her top dollar. I do understand the market conditions play a significant role.

I placed them on ebay but I realize that fees etc may affect the sell price.

If anyone is interested in the coins on ccf, I will try to sell them at the most fair rate for both my relative and the buyer

Yes, all prices you listed are above what I have seen for sale lately.

WLHalves 14.5 x face
Dateless SLQ 13.5 x face
etc.

I'm sure she appreciates your help!

Basically if I were to buy from you I'd buy at the following prices
13.5x for dimes
13.5 for quarters
14x for halves
$1.75 per 40%
.75 for War Nickels.

In the past week I bought the exact items you list for 13.5 x face from my lcs. If he were buying my guess is he would be paying 12x...On a good day.
