Hi my name is David. I've been collecting for a few months now. I started out with ASE but recently moved to putting together a while set of Roosevelt dimes. I almost have the whole silver set, only missing four, with about 80% of them being BU. So my question is that recently I found out they started making silver dimes again in 1992. I found a uncirculated 98 at my local coin shop but that was the only one he had. So my question is are these harder to find? Do you have to buy sets to get them? Thanks for any info

Production of silver dimes for circulation ended with the 1964 Dime. Recently as you noted, they have started producing silver dimes for Silver Proof sets. If your LCS had a 1998 silver dime, it was busted out of a set either by the LCS or a customer of theirs. There is a possibility of them getting into circulation, but that would be very rare and probably from a family member cashing in a deceased member's collection.

to the CCFamily! To follow up on what Fuzzy was saying, there are a couple ways of getting the newer silver dimes. As you've figured out, they only come in the silver proof sets. Many people will break up those sets and sell them piece by piece on ebay. You could also make your LCS owner know that you're looking for them and they might give you a call when they come in. Fastest, easiest way to get them is through ebay or maybe a coin show.

In the meantime, go for the clad ones that you can find in circulation. The only tough ones are 2009s; the rest you can find easily.

BTW, which four are you having trouble with?

I'll have to look when I get off work to see which one I need. I know my coin shop has one but it has a $45 price tag cause of toning and I'm not a huge fan of toning

Like someone mentioned, 1992-present Rooselvelt silvers are rare in circulation, but they are out there, I've found several proof silver and clad post '92 Roosevelts via roll hunting.

David: I just checked and forum rules say we can't discuss buy/sell/trade in the discussion forums and you need 50 posts to participate in such activities. I don't see a rule about giving coins, but to stay on the right side of the law I'll have to wait until you get there. Then I can help you out with these issues.

Until then, have fun participating in these discussions, and don't hesitate to ask questions. There is an amazing amount of information in old posts and new discussions get started every few minutes.
