here's my most recent pick up crappy pictures sadly but they're the best I could get out of a batch of over 30. I got this one from the this weekend's troyak show. I think I got a fair deal and have drooled over this coin since it came home with me, in hand it is near flawless with a PL appearance with a soft satiny luster when looked at head on and a beautiful reflective surface when viewed at an angle. the coin also has beautiful soft toned over it which the pictures don't capture, as well as scattered blues on the rims and more vibrant colours in hand than the pictures suggest. only with much scrutiny and time do you find any flaws, which are minor to say the least and restricted to the neck in the form of a couple extremely light hairlines.

again, apologies for the not too great pics

what you see on the obverse is a scratch on the slab and a shadow on the coin due to it

Can you put up the PCGS images as well?
Giving an accurate grade from your images is quite impossible I am afraid

first thing I did when I got it was go to see if PCGS had done the true view images..sadly they did not

my apologies about the pictures, as I said, these were the best out of a batch of at least 30..

Is that a rim ding at the 1200 on the obverse? Seems more pronounced on the top photo than the bottom.

I would like to know if that is a planchet issue underneath the ear and under the nose? Besides these two issues the coin is utterfly flawless. If those are on the coin, I would assume PCGS would deduct a point, but if they are on the holder and the attractiveness of this coin due to most being blast white and this having some color would raise it a point. I am going to say ms66 if those are an issue, but a possible 66+ if not a 67 if it is on the holder. I might recommend sending this coin in for a reslabbing and Clearview photos, or try to remove some of the scratches on the holder :)

Yeah, I'd go with MS-65 or 66 as well. Nice coin!

thanks for the replies all, and again, sorry about the lousy pictures..this thread is less of a you vs. TPG and more of a lesson on how important getting quality pictures of your coins is if you decide to ask for grading help.

the 2 spots pointed out by Apitrix are nothing and don't even show in hand really.

i was surprised by the range of grades given here but that is to be expected since grading can be subjective and since the images were such terrible quality.

so here's the grade assigned by PCGS, which I by the way fully agree with, if I didn't I wouldn't have bought it, in fact I think this could push a + designation if sent in again for reconsideration.

thanks for playing

What are you using to take your images with?
I have seen some very good images here taken with smartphones, point and shoot camera's and the more expensive DSLR camera's.
The "Technique" being used usually has the greatest bearing on the image quality regardless of the equipment used to take the images.

i used a samsung galaxy J1, the pictures it produces aren't too great from my experience, this wasn't a technique problem, it was a unique combination of the phone used, the coin's appearance and the slab getting in the way.

The phone could be having difficulty in focussing on the surface of the slab instead of the coin itself (auto focus)which will cause the images to be out of focus and blurry.
I am not sure but I think there are some apps that can be used to give you more control options to be able to produce better images.
I have a Samsung S7 and it takes a reasonable image with its 16mp camera but nothing as good as my Nikon DSLR because I don't know how to change the settings on my phone camera nor am I able to hold it perfectly still.
I imagine that there are techniques to be able to overcome these shortcomings But with my very limited knowledge in using a smartphone to take coin images I usually end up with images pretty much the same as yours So you are definitely Not alone in this Mate

You know that it's impossible to offer a 67 with those supplied pics..

I didn't think that it was fair to you to just guess on it..
