I bought a starter Canadian Nickel set and I arrived today. The 1st one I looked at was this one. It really stood out on 1st page. I looked on Coins and Canada for this year, and yes there are Lots of die crack varieties and a few clashes as well, I don't however see them with both or this many die cracks. Get ready for a lot of pictures. We will start with the Die Cracks...There are A LOT. Now for the Clashes. Now this last one If you look closely at the top of the V there is a line curving down towards the 9 and extends out the bottom. This looks raised to me looking through a loop What do you think...All opinions welcome. Thanks...Mont.

I agree this die was dead. On 1st close-up the die crack on the C goes from the rim on one side of C across the top of it and out the other side to the rim. The 1 one the N goes from rim down and across on to the A ends near arrow. The one on the last A in Canada extends all the way down to 2nd arrow.

Thanks again all.
I was looking at this again last night and discovered the clash around the 9 (Last Picture) on reverse actually starts at the top of the torch and then curves around top of V then extends down through the 9. When held right you can see the complete outline of the back of the head. I will try to get a better picture of area later today.
I still have not found a listing like this one anywhere. Should it be listed? If so where?
Would this many errors on this coin cause it to command a premium if ever sold? Don't plan to sell but interested in knowing.

These types of minor clashes, pitting really has very little added values

Congratulations on choosing a great series to collect! IMO the Canadian nickels 1922-1960s are some of the best looking in a folder b/c of the variety of metals ad shapes in a relatively short period of time. I have loved them since a kid. I think this was the first ever set I completed including the key dates. When you compare the RCM today to what it was back in the early days of non-silver nickels, you find a very different situation. Maybe a non-coin example will give you an idea. It was in the late mid 70s my parents and I were traveling just north of Toronto, Ontario and stopped to get an ice cream cone. I don't remember what it was my Mom ordered, but the reply was, "Look Ma'am this isn't the States, do you want chocolate or vanilla?" WHile collecting back in those days I remember seeing a lot more "character" like you are pointing out on Canadian coins than US coins and asking about why. The answer was like the ice cream cone one. The RCM has come a long way since back then with pioneering many new coinage ideas and setting quality standards.

Quote: Hello MontCollector
Did you see this link for Die Clash? No I didn't. Thank you for that. I can't read the text, but hey a coin overlay is a coin overlay no matter what language you speak. Had to save that link. So looking at the overlay here is the list of clashes I can see. All on reverse 1. Brow of the nose 2. Eye socket area 3. Small hair line (in between V and torch right side...1st picture of clashes...doesn't have arrow. 4. The entire back of the head left side down to neck line. 5. Bottom of chin above TS. 6. This one I have to confirm...but it looks like there could be something going on in the ear area on reverse as well. In between V and left side of torch. Thanks again for the link. It is going to be very helpful.
