Thoughts on grade and problems? As usual, TPG grade and price in 48. Thanks.

Reverse is close to mint state but the obverse shows friction in the fields and wear on the breast and thigh. Solid AU-55 and possible AU-58 IMO. Attractive and problem-free.

That reverse looks 64 and the obverse looks 58. I just can't decide! How about MS-62 ish?

Probably MS-63 although there might be some dull spots in the field that could lower the grade to MS-62. The obverse photo implies that in back of Ms. Liberty's right forearm, above her shoulder and in the right field.

I bid on this one but let it go to the eventual winner who paid one more bid than I did. It sold for $612 which was a pretty good deal. That was an ok price because these never sell for $500 which is listed wholesale bid. Generally these sell for $650-900. They are plentiful in MS and I have seen many that were better quality. I guess I will wait for one with better mint luster. 1861 is the most common of the Civil War year quarters. Some of the coins of this date in the market look really pq in this grade.
