this is Apitrix's, I am posting the thread on his behalf because it is easier for me to post pics with my laptop than for him to post them with his phone.

i believe that it was possibly struck through a de-laminated piece of another planchet..all thoughts appreciated.

Thanks for posting for me! Much appreciated, seems like a double strike thru. No idea what exactly would cause this and any information anyone could give or ideas would be appreciated

It could be a straight forward lamination. I'm undecided though as the overall shape looks too rounded to be a lam. Struck-through lamination peel may be the intermediate solution.

It looks like a strike through to me. (DE)Laminations usually have sharper ridges/edges and has somewhat of a termination point. This one has soft edges all the way around which to me points to a strike through. Very nice piece. Great eye appeal.

Just curious - is it raised or incuse? The first picture looks incuse and the second one looks raised. It looks like it was struck through two of something, with one piece offset down and to the left.

Looks like a strike through a die cap fragment to me... what is the weight? A lamination that large would lighten the coin considerably...

Most likely a strike through with that weight. 1989 5 cents should weigh 4.54 grams so yours is within tolerance.
