Thanks earle: obviously it's is not a favorite method by everyone, but I prefer it to sticking a coin in a hole in a manufactured album. Not much satisfaction from that to me.

Quote: Stapled flips: Quite easy to handle. I press the exposed ends down into the flip making them nearly flat. Removing coins is simple with an exacto knife cutting at the inside of the mylar a bit. Then pressing the coin free. Hardest part is getting the staples perfectly aligned which I didn't do on this example. I agree. I keep all of my miscellaneous coins in 2x2 cardboard holders which go into a Dansco album with 12-pocket pages. No problems. I should note that removal is typically non-issue since I play for keeps. Quote: january - perhaps, but this IS my album. Exactly. You have to make yourself happy. But really, to each their own. If staples make you nervous then keep doing what you are doing.

I do not have any slabbed coins. My collection numbers about 4,500 pieces Slabs do not fit in 2x2 album pages. Fortunately, the great bulk of my collection is in the form of coins that are better off not slabbed: ancients, hammered milled and modern World coins, where their individual value would not justify slabbing anyway, and where identification information can be written on the 2x2 cardboard mylar flip that contains them. @ 999fine: Your flip writing is MUCH neater than mine!

I like 2X2 white envelopes with soft cotton insert pockets for better items.

Nice work @999fine. I agree with your thought process and execution.

I gotta love on the penmanship too. Very nice! Reminds me of my intro to engineering class.

My only comment is I don't like the idea of using an exacto knife to remove coins from flips. I don't want a knife blade anywhere close to the coin. You can achieve the same thing with a toothpick which will do no damage if it slipps and makes contact with the coin like the knife will.

I am going to send you all my coins in flips, just so you can label them... Your penmanship is top notch!!

I agree ... there was no reason to keep this coin in the slab. Your 2X2's are great looking .. and nice looking coins too.. Stapled 2X2's are used everywhere. I have taken thousands of coins out of 2X2's without scratching the coins. The trick is doing it the right way. I am thinking you have a very nice looking Mexico type set ..

Love the penmanship, and yes I did train as a draftsman. I also got a little obsessed with the staple location. So I built a jig only to discover there are variations in the cardboard holders. Perhaps erroneously, I use 4 staples, thinking less wrinkles might allow me to photograph the coin without removing it. Quote: zip-lock poly bags As in poly vinyl chloride bags? They are useful for mailing and sorting, but I'm not sure they are good for long term storage.
