One more from my 50¢ (US) apiece finds today. I presume this exchanged at a halfpenny rate? In any case, I'd judge it's in pretty decent condition, that one rim ding notwithstanding.

I regularly do business with a couple of different dealers, both of whom are actually known nationwide. Neither cares much about material such as this, as they have bigger fish to fry (so to speak), and thus virtually all this Canadian coinage ends up in their "junk" bins. I also benefit from their customers being generally disinterested in anything "foreign". So I get to see a lot of stuff, Canadian and otherwise, that only I among their clientele seem to appreciate. It's reflective of how parochial on the whole American collectors are, and as a result how dealers' business models and inventory naturally tend to conform to that reality.

This token is identified by Charlton's as PE-7A1. (thick 5's)

The 5's in the date are either short & thick or Long & slender.

Charlton identifies the long & slender as PE-7A2 (thin 5's).

Grade F 15.

Doctor Courteau identified three varieties of this issue.
Varieties 13 & 14 have thick 5's; whereas variety 15 has thin 5's.

Yours is either Courteau variety 13 or 14.
The obverse of both are the same.

The reverse of variety 13 has the "S" in SELF directly
above the "E" in GOVERNMENT and the "E" in TRADE is
directly below the last "E" in FREE.

The reverse of variety 14 shews the right serifs of both "N's"
in GOVERNMENT to be defective and the "E" in TRADE is to the
right of the last "E" in FREE.

Yours is variety 13, having a rarity factor of 2 (rather common).
ps. Variety 14 is even more common having a rarity factor of 1.
