I hate to take away any enthusiasm because it is exceptionally nice but, are you sure it is a proof?

Edit: from the pics, it looks to be a pretty high grade (hard to tell for sure) so it may be more beneficial if it were not a proof.

Actually I'm not sure, I just assumed it was proof by the looks of it.

Sorry for posting here, please move to more appropriate forum

It's in the right forum, proof or not.

Let's see what others have to say.

Regular business strike, rims are not proof, squared and even all around. Your angled pix also show some grainyness in fields. Is very good condition for circ, but because it IS circulated/handled, is AU 58+, can't be MS although looks like it, that's the shame!
Rest in Peace

Butch , I sense a little sway in your beliefs on Lincolns found in the wild . But don't worry I still have your back .
I believe this is a real nice business strike . Quite a few years ago I bought a bunch of BU 68-S's , the strike and mint luster were astounding , most of them were 66-67's.

This cent is AU-58+ because it is circulated / handled !

Even as a business strike, it's a great find and I always get a little joy out of finding something like this in circulation.

I will respectfully disagree with the esteemed T-Bop and Crazyb0 - just because a coin has made it into circulation does not necessarily mean it has any wear and is automatically AU. It has some bag marks that push it out of higher MS but I'd put it at 63-64RD.

Agreed that is a nice cent, esp since you found it in the wild. Had to have been sitting in someones collection to be in that good of shape.

Anytime an "S" coin is found in circulation, it's cause for celebration! (Spoken like a true northeastener.)

If you sent that coin off to get graded, it would come back UNC.

I agree ..that just because this coin was found in circulation, that it means it
Is a AU coin.

For a local coin shop I dumped hundreds of BU 60's and 70's rolls a few weeks ago. Older BU coins can be picked up with very little handling.

I would put the OP's coin MS 63 or higher. Based on the pictures.

That's a beautiful circulation find, congrats! I would say MS-64, but I'm not entirely sure based on the pictures. As others said, it could be AU-58. Still a great addition to your collection!

I'd call it a low end Gem or maybe MS-64+.

These come very nice in the mint sets. Maybe it just didn't quite make the cut. It might have been the splotchiness on the reverse that killed it.

It's a superb circulation find though.
Time don't fly, it bounds and leaps.
