Reading like a book, I have tried to cover the most basic type set of IKE's here. I know there's a lot more and different mintmarks, little Earths and stuff, but I just wanted the most basic types included and have at least one of each type. Did I do it? It's for my TYPE SET. 1974 P Clad - 1971 S Silver Unc ( Blue Ike )
1973 S Clad Proof - 1974 S Silver Proof ( Brown Ike )
1976 Clad Unc Bicentennial - 1976 Silver Unc Bicentennial
1976 Clad Proof Type 2 ( maybe ) - 1976 Clad Proof Type 1
1976 Silver Proof

Nice Ike set NickelGuy I've been purchasing different types of Ikes too. I am looking for a display case to hold them. Maybe capital case? I will post some pictures when I get the case.

Thanks CoconutJoe! Those in the black area are in the mail to me. I bought them to complete this project recently. The silver 3 pc set should show up tomorrow. I hope the IKE is nice. Seller had several, I asked for the one that had the nicest IKE in it. We shall see. These are all dusty. I never cracked a proof set in my life but I will be doing it when they all show up and I sit down and organize this.

Very nice set there Nickelguy It looks to me like you have at least 1 of every type. Clad, Clad Proofs, Silver UNC, Silver proofs, and both types of the 1976's. There are a couple others, but they are not needed in a "Basic" Ike type set. Why only a type set if I may ask? A complete set can be put together fairly easily with little money.

Nice type set there NickleGuy! Your funny feeling is correct. Ike's diameter is 38mm. Same as Morgans and Peace dollars. The ASE silver dollar is 40.6mm.

Thanks guys! MontCollector: I am not a huge fan of the coin, I like IKE and this coin design(s) but if I'm going to buy another coin with the same money that I would spend to make a complete set, I think I'd rather just look at a single classic Commemorative Half Dollar, a nice Standing Liberty quarter or put that money toward a future Indian gold coin. I'm just trying to cover the back end of my type set since I can't fill out the front end with the flowing hair and draped busts etc. Debrajc: Last night before I hit the hay, I looked in my Red Book and saw that diameter data. Some advertisements I saw for that particular Capital Galaxy holder say it would work for either but they'll advise you how to adjust the slots. I know it probably involves sandpaper and buffing polish. I had to use that method for a Half Cent once. I have to make sure I use one that is specifically for US Silver Dollars otherwise, the IKE's will be in there loose if it's for Silver Eagles. spruett001: LOL .... well I guess you might as well wrap it up and send it. Actually, I do have a 77 proof clad and a fair number of other dates and mintmarks in the IKE department, but it still won't tempt me to go buy 1973 brown and blue IKE's to carry on. Just want the minimal set here. ( A few months from now, I'll change my mind as usual and be working on the set )

An excellent set! Quote: 1976 Clad Unc Bicentennial There are two varieties here, just like the clad proof, so you are missing one. So, what is stopping you from completing the 32 coin set?

TNG, ASE holes are bigger than Ikes. Ikes match Morgan/Peace holes. use blank Whitman pages to make set label it your way!

I've never cracked one either, but after I get a display case, I will, for the first time. Thanks for the glove advice. And thanks NickelGuy for the Capital display links. I might think about 32 coin set as jbuck suggested, since I already have about 20 of them.

I hope spruett001 has a Ty 1 Clad Unc 1976 when I win that contest. LOL Yes jbuck, I pondered it. But in a pinch, technically, I do have a type one reverse in the proof. The 76 Silver Unc arrived today. It has the thick lettering Ty 2. I think there is one known Ty 1 so a complete set is out of the question. I try to remember which type is which and come up with this. "She stuck with me through Thick and Thin". Thick coming first in the old saying, so it is type 1. The easiest way for me to see the difference quickly is the second S in STATES. The S is longer in the Type 1. Jeeze, I hope that is correct. I also think I cover the three type Earths in this little set. Here's the updated gallery image.

Earle42: Yes I have a set like you show but no plastic tray or sleeve. I do have the folder tho. That's where that 76 Silver proof one comes from, but my 1975 and 1976 sets have the other two proofs in them. No big deal opening them. Just never did it before.
