Herb, my postal carrier, brought me another goodie today. Back in 1984, shortly after I got out of school and started earning a salary so I had some money to start buying coins again, I purchased a beautiful AU-58 1916-D Barber quarter from a dealer in Milwaukee. I still have that coin. As nice as it is I have long wanted to purchase a mint state Barber quarter and today's arrival ended that want. It's an untoned 1892 beauty that has been graded MS-63 by NGC. It also has a CAC "green bean" sticker. I can't believe how lovely it is; full silver color with no toning after all these years! This purchase completes my BU Barber dime, quarter and half dollar set. I imagine that back in 1892 this was the first Barber quarter someone received and that person saved it. 125 years later and it's mine! Thanks to CCF for giving me an opportunity to share it with other collectors. Paul Bulgerin

Wow that's a beautiful Barber quarter! Your patience paid off, it's definitely a premium, high-end MS-63! Hopefully when I leave school I will finally get a MS Barber as well

Congrats! That is a superior looking Barber quarter. I'm surprised the bean isn't gold.

What a beauty! I like the looks of these coins in good condition.

Why are MS barbers so expensive?

Quote: Why are MS barbers so expensive? Simple. Because they are uncommon. Not many Barber coins were preserved, not many people liked the design, and thus they just circulated and almost all Barber coinage you see today is worn. Though it was probably dipped somewhere along the way (I STRONGLY doubt a coin can go 125+ years without toning unless in very special conditions) it is an extremely attractive example nontheless.
