Very cool! I only have 3 ounces of Engelhard, but I like it, particularly the prospector rounds.

Brands will compete based on who is the most recognizable and therefore the most trustworthy when it's time to sell. Otherwise it's all the same metal. People who pay more for a brand are throwing their money away. One product is essentially the same as the next. It's like bottled water.

Quote: ok, I will bit, whats the big difference in the different brands if all are for the same amount ? Engelhard precious metals were once the industry standard and the world's largest refiner and fabricator of precious metals. Engelhard was universally accepted around the world and has a reputation that is second to none for quality and trustworthiness. They are one of the highly respected private mints in the world for their time-tested quality. The Engelhard name has provided high quality Silver to people all over the world for over 100 years. Engelhard went out of business in the 80's so their products are sought after for their guaranteed purity, quality and brand name recognition. The Engelhard name remains a trusted and recognized icon in the precious metals industry and their silver bars remain in high demand and carry a premium. That is the difference. Check out prices on Engelhard silver you will see. I like them and when I can get them at a good price I do so.

I don't collect Engelhard Silver, per se, but I do have a nice one in my collection of 100 ounce silver bars:

@Taphandle - Nice collection of Engelhard silver!
I've liked the American Prospector rounds for many years. I've put together a simple date set of them (including the 1985 fractional rounds - 1/10, 1/4 and 1/2), but that's about it.
I enjoy collecting silver rounds from the 1980s - plenty of variety at reasonable price points1
