I hope this is the correct forum!

Found this in my uncle's collection in a plastic holder which had caused some yellowing to the coin.

I researched and determined it's called an American Silver Eagle yet I was surprised by the weight difference.

Does that mean this coin is a fake?

This weight is within the tolerance range that I'm familiar with. Some of them weigh upward of 32 grams. I think anything between 31-32 grams is OK. You got a 0.3g bonus. Now just confirm that it is silver...

It is within the Weight Tolerance. Is your scale calibrated?

Thanks! I did the tissue test and it looks silver. The diameter is about 39cm versus 40.6 using a dial caliper.

The scale is new and I see I need to get a standard weight to do the calibration.

The coin also has some "tarnishing" possibly from the plastic holder it was in. Should I gently clean with acetone?

Thanks again for all your help!!

Acetone will do nothing for toning/tarnish.
It won't hurt, but make sure it is pure acetone, not nail polish remover.
