I haven't seen anything on this yet but just looking through the mint schedule for 2018, there is a San Francisco minted proof ASE that will be available in the summer. It looks like this year will have as many if not more offerings than the mints celebrated anniversary year. There is also a San Francisco minted "Silver Reverse Proof Set", that seems to contain what's in the silver proof set but obviously reversed proof. The World War 1 Centennials will consist of seven coins. There will also be a reappearance of the latest Lady Liberty in a 1/10th ounce coin. Another Palladium coin is in the lineup as well. So there will be at least a few extra products that I will be vying for in the coming year. What do you think?

Quote: The World War 1 Centennials will consist of seven coins. More like twelve. Each medal is bundled with a dollar. Yes, they are duplicates that should not be counted, but still they are an unavoidable purchase at this time.

It's ridiculous that the mint is forcing people to buy the same coin over and over for every medal that they buy. It will get to the point where people will actually be sick of seeing this coin. I will probably just get one in this case and that would be the Navy as I was a SeaBee in my younger days. The S mint ASE and the Silver Reverse Proof set will definitely be purchases for me this year. Does anyone know if it is the Proof or Unc dollar that is paired with the medals? I don't see it in writing anywhere, my guess would be Proof but who knows?

Marketing practices seem to be shifting to mimic what the RCM market appears to be about: Maximize profit NOW no matter what. The result is killing off the consumer base of collectors that made them large, so they employ gimmicky things like a gluing a 3D bear to the surface of a "coin" so they broaden their customer base to those who never would have given an actual coin a second glance. Hopefully in a few years we won't see the US mint offering the equivalent, but of an eagle. Continuing the State Quarter program once it was done seemed, to me, to be a gimmicky step. A quarter program is how the RCM started their journey down this road.

Having multiple dollar series that nobody wants to collect, will really have no value in twenty years, even worse than the going rates for 21st century proof and mint sets...can't even pull the initial costs! The designs are uninspired for the most part, contracts seem to be awarded as participation prizes for 3rd grade art entries. Quality is paltry at best, so yes, finding a worthy to slab coin in higher grades is a rarity indeed. The milk spots poor rinses, the MD galore, its a sorry state of affairs. But I may be interested in a glow-in-the-dark Bush and Obama coin, just to give out and scare the masses!

I will assume, even though the thread is about the S ASE, the "set" comment is about the Military medals and to get all 5 medals it will cost you $500 and you will then have 5 unique medals and 5 duplicate pf comms.

Is there any indication that the S Proof ASE will be available along with the W Proof ASE in some sort of set?

I would assume the S ASE will be in the LE PF Set but I don't see anything about a multi-Mint ASE set....yet
