You can only afford to keep one, which coin do you keep? 1916 Standing Liberty quarter G-4 CAC (some date shows just a little) -or- 1850-D $2.50 Gold Liberty EF-40 CAC I'm interested in hearing people's choices and why? Oh and you do not have a set of SLQ's so the 1916 isn't needed to complete a set. Thanks in advance!

1850-D $2.50 Gold Liberty because:
1. I'm not a fan of the SLQ. 2. The history behind the Dahlonega mint is interesting, and I love history. 3. It is gold

I don't have a SLQ collection, I keep the gold without a doubt!

I'd keep the 1916 quarter. There tends to be a lot more collector interest in the quarters than in the old quarter eagles.

I'd keep the 50-D for pretty much the same reasons as yhbearcats indicated except I do like SLQs.

I think some pictures are needed to give an honest answer. But that being said a G4 coin is not a grade I like, and it is easier to replace the SLQ down the road. Keep the gold!

50-D
I'm cool with the design of the 1916, however.... the 50-D is gold, is in a notably higher grade, better story and history, and I think will be a safer bet financially far down the road.

I would definitely go with the quarter eagle, well, because it's gold!
(and I'm not a fan of the SLQ series)

Gold. I do not attach much value to badly worn coins, however scarce the date. On the other hand, if I was collecting SLQ, I would be inclined to keep the quarter if it meant I had a complete set.

I am a fan of the SLQ series....but I would keep the Dahlonega gold coin over a G-4 1916....just cause it is "cooler".
Any chance of some pics?

There's not a whole lot to look at on a G4 SLQ. Gold for me, but I'd rather have a $2.50 Indian than the Liberty.

The Georgia gold has much more history behind its existence. It's also significantly scarcer than the 1916 SLQ. Not a hard choice for me. Try explaining to a newbie collector why they should be excited about a worn-out 1916 SLQ...
