I know this may seem like a strange question. I'll give a quick overview to start. I have 2 coins that came with a collection I purchased several years ago, that are complete oddballs. One os a Wheat penny with the reverse being of a Nickel, V with cents. The other is a Mercury dime with the reverse being that of a Wheat penny. The materials coincide with what is being viewed. Its as though someone took half of each and attached it to the half of another. Was this a common thing back in the day, or did the guy who had this collection just like trying his handiwork? Thanks!

can you post images of these coins?

Here is the tutorial about uploading and posting images

And here is the CCF Free Image Optimizer to help crop your images. Please preview your post/pictures to be sure they are rotated correctly.
Rest in Peace

to the answer factory!

Thoese are called "magicians coins". The cent or nickel was ground down in diameter/thickness like you noted. There are also two-sided coins sold today as novelty items that have two "heads" or "tails".

They are known as Magician's coins. They are two separate coins machined to fit together to make a "hybrid".
I would still like to see pics of them, though.

Close examination of the edge with a magnification glass will reveal the ruse.

@olds442111, first welcome to CCF. Second, while I agree with the others that these are most likely Magician's coins, it still would be super cool to see pics of them!
