Question-Of-The-Day-2003-Quarter-Maybe-All-Copper?

This everyday quarter on the left is missing any silver color.
What are the chances it was just the copper stamped?

Looks just a bit more worn, not seeing the copper color?

Clad coins get a dark, coppery tone when they've been on the ground for awhile. Was this in circulation or did you find it somewhere?

found it coin roll hunting. It looks more like a penny then a quarter.
and I have weather beaten black quarters to compair it to.

Is it possible to acid wash the silver off a quarter and still have a clean looking quarter.
That's a possibility.

Take a look at the copper on the edge of the coin. If it is darker, Then you know you are not seeing copper color on the quarter. It should be red:

Do you see the weakness of the strike because of the missing clad layer? This happens on missing cladding on coins:

What happens when you compare a missing clad coin with a red colored coin?

Note the coin on the right is normal, but that color because of being found outdoors. But note, there is no weakness on the rim area? That is because the coin was normal, but because of the missing cladding the coin on the left is a real missing clad coin?

Now that's what I'm talking about.
But I guess you have to see it in person.
Maybe I will take it to the local coin shop and see what he says.

You can take it to your LCS, but as coop says, your coin is fully struck. If it was missing a clad layer, you would notice the weak strike.

You can take it to the LCS, but it will be a wasted trip, as your coin has environmental damage that is giving it the color.
