So about 10 years ago I bought a mint set to break up for my Danscos. In it I found this Eisenhower dollar. I took it out of the cophane for aome stupid reason but it came from the mint like this. I think it was struck through a chipped rim. What do you think, and what kind of valie would something like this have?

It certainly looks like a strike-through to me. What's the date?

It looks like it was Struck Through a reeded edge from scrap metal. This is very rare and is worth a lot of money. Get this thing protected as soon as possible! Put it in a 2x2 coin flip. Very nice find!

Coop, before we write this coin off as Post Mint Damage, we'll need more better in focus pictures of the coin. We'll need cropped pictures of the obverse, reverse, and the area in question. A picture of the edge where the "Struck Through" is would be great.

Note the detached reeds are fully struck. This example is showing weakness just like a dropped coin would show. Slight waves in the field and some copper transfer to the victim coin, from the edge of the cladding.

Okay, I see what you mean Coop. Thank you very much for explaining it better. It makes more sense to me now.

I'm not pleading my case. I'm just helping others to see what I'm seeing. Rotating the coin helped a lot more after I edited it.

I just have to do it just so.

My first thought was that it looked like PMD as well but I would have expected the reeds on the end (by the star) to be shallower, and there to be similar damage on the rim (which the image doesn't show clearly). This reeding is pretty consistent , so I'll just go with .

Thank you very much for the additional pictures derekbob24! Very interesting to look at. In my opinion, I think that this is a genuine 100 percent U.S. Mint error. I just don't see a way that someone could fake this error. It must have been done at the U.S. Mint.

I didn't say it didn't happen at the mint. It happened after the strike. PSD. Have you seen coins pouring out of the machines during the striking process on the videos? This is not a proof coin, but a business strike coin. The marks on the edge of the coin tells me it was expelled from the machine and damaged other coins as well as long as with this one. Mint sets are just random runs of coins. Proof coins are handled special. (well, most of the time)

I'm sorry Coop. I hope I'm not aggravating you. I'm just trying to learn here too. I have seen that video of the coins getting minted. I hope you are not angry at me as I'm just questioning the coin. I also know the the difference between business strikes and proof strikes. I'm not trying to cause trouble.
