Hello everyone. This is my first post, since joining. I inherited my Dad's coin collection which is a variety of older US coins, that include 14 Morgan dollars, which I'll post later.

Wanted to start with this nickel I've had for a few years, which I believe one of my sons gave it to me, don't really remember but not sure what happen to it. Looks, and sorry not sure of correct terms, but seems too much metal was punched as you cannot see the words, and I think that's a die crack. I really would appreciate some expert input on this coin.
Thank you and it's great to be here.

Someone will be along to help you with what caused that to your nickel.

I believe you have a ' Dryer Coin'.

More information can be found here: http://goccf.com/t/143863

It's just a damaged coin -- still, I wouldn't mind finding one of my own someday.

@Janiern5555, first welcome to CCF. Second, while it looks a little different from some of the other Dryer Coins that we see, I'd say that is most lekely what you have here as well. Regardless of the cause of damage, there is no numismatic value beyond face value. On the other hand, the price was right and there may be some sentimental value considering the source of this nickel so saving it could be a good choice too.

My first thought was Dryer Coin, as well. However, I'm still interested in that line that appears to be a lamination flaw over TJ's head. Maybe caused by the tumbling?

This is not from a home dryer, but from a larger dryer in a laundry mat. It has a lot longer fall in them.
