This is a gold tremesis of leon I, I am sure its gold because it weighs 1,45g and the normal weight of this coin is 1,48g but I am not sure if it is authentic.... doest matter how many posts I read I still have dificulties identifying the fakes from the real gold coins. I would love your opinion

I believe your coin is genuine, it has a lot of scratches though maybe from someone trying to clean it.

@DanielGu, first welcome to CCF. Second that is a nice coin that you have there. Having the correct weight is a good start, although certainly not the only way to distinguish between real and fake. Your coin looks a bit wavy and scratched in multiple places as noted by @echizento, which suggests to me that it is a very soft metal (like gold). You could bring it to a jeweler or pawn shop (if such things exist in Portugal) to confirm that it is gold, but overall I agree that it looks pretty real.

Can you share a little bit about how you got it?

I can't quite figure out why the scratches are more in the fields, and the raised areas of the design are less affected.

So far as the raised areas of the design are concerned, only the cheek and neck have scratches.

Needs to be checked for style of die cutting and letter shapes.

This link will take you to a selection of 42 Leo tremisses from CNG. Compare the overall robustness of style on these coins to the flatter, linear style of the op coin, the treatment of the skirt for example.

Almost 100% sure that it is made in good quality gold.
If it was pure gold, 1.45 grams would only equate about $60 bullion value. That is small in relation of potential numismatic value, if genuine.

After an on screen comparison of styles, I can understand why OP has suspicions.

Thank you all for the help, this coin is not mine in fact, I have been collecting coins for years but I never got into roman and greek coins (because in Portugal those are not sold often) but I recently got a silver denar (septimos severos) and it just amaze me. Now I find myself having dificulties collecting ancient coins because the only way is through ebay and online sites... the amount of fakes scares me and its pretty hard to identify well crafted fakes (i know the right color, weight and roundness for the coins ... but details like the quality of the letters I find hard to identify given the photos)
