Is there any way to remove the white corrosion from a steel cent? I know the general rule of thumb is never clean a coin... but by the looks of this one, why not? I have several like this and would like to try whatever is recommended.

I don't really know on that one, but that is pretty bad corrosion. Maybe Acetone and Verdi-Care?

Thanks for the feedback. I looked at the links to the other posts and did some google searches. I ended up putting white vinegar in a small glass bowl, putting the coin in it and agitating as I watched the corrosion lift. It took about three minutes. I removed the coin, washed and rinsed with mild dish washing soap, dried the best I could and then doused it in acetone. I know I have a cleaned coin but at least it has a little detail now.

Hey, but it did a great job! It looks so much better now that you did that!

50/50% vinegar and hydrogen peroxide, same as what you raise dates on dateless Buffalos may work better. Makes a mild acid base solution.

Here is another one that was buried in corrosion... DDO-001! . I will have to try the 50/50 with vinegar and hydrogen peroxide, I have four rolls of these corroded coins. Thanks Crazy!

Experiment on non valuable coins first. Get what works down before attempting a valuable coin. The wrong thing done will remove any value to a variety coin. Don't Dr Jeckel a coin and get a Mr. Hyde coin. You could loose big time.

When I saw your first coin, I thought it was a solid struck thru. Like this one: For me, cleaning (mostly with acetone) has reveals and confirmed many anomalies (die cracks, chips, DDO's, RPM's, etc..) over the years.
