1980 D Washington Quarter Error?

I have found a 1980 d Washington quarter in my till at work the ridge around the quarter is deeper than other coins. The Liberty lettering is partly in the ridge the quarter is larger in the ridge around the coin is thicker than another quarter.

@cjacks, first welcome to CCF. Second, as noted above, pics would be super-helpful. I do note that the characteristics your describe are sometimes found on so-called Dryer Coins, but we really need to see what you've got before we can speculate as to what happened.
