Would an ANACs holdered coin generally sell at a discount to PCGS or NGC? I've graded the coin and agree with the ANACs grade. Now, it comes down to price. Looking to add to my collection not resell.
Thoughts?

The coin is the most important thing. Let's start with pics of yours, both sides please.

Quote: Would an ANACs holdered coin generally sell at a discount to PCGS or NGC? I wouldn't use the word discount. ANACS might be viewed as the least desirable TPG compared to PCGS and NGC. People selling coins in ANACS slabs "might" sell them cheaper compared to coins in the more desirable PCGS or NGC slabs. As you know, buy the coin not the slab.

All depends on which side of the table you're on.
If you are trying to sell an ANACS holdered coin most dealers will give you the sob story that "ANACS coins are not graded accurately and aren't worth as much as PCGS or NGC holdered coins".
On the other hand, when you are trying to buy an ANACS holdered coin, the dealer will tell you "oh, that coin is graded accurately and I'm gonna get it crossed over into a PCGS holder at the next show....blah blah blah ...and it's worth what a PCGS coin would be worth."
Happens all the time.

What's the difference between a Chevy Blazer, a GMC Jimmy or an Oldsmobile Bravada, besides price? (BTW, I equate Oldsmobile to PCGS, all prestige)

I once had some of my students actually arguing over which type of (non-flavored, BTW) bottled water tasted the best. Each student was so serious about their position that I had to shut it down when they started yelling at each other and calling each other idiots.
Human nature, marketing, peer pressure, and already-spent-money-before-understanding keep people arguing about bottled water, while the people getting paid for bottling the "spring water" out of their faucets enjoy profits enough to gold plate their fleet of Rolls Royce cars.
Numismatics is about coins. Never forget these companies are just sideline businesses that exist to profit from the coin hobby.
If someone likes to collect slabs - all the more power to them. Its a hobby and a hobby is about fun.

Quote: Would an ANACs holdered coin generally sell at a discount to PCGS or NGC? Generally yes. Very few things in their holders would be worth paying up/paying top price for. Most things are common enough that PCGS prices should be for PCGS coins. Some of it depends on what it actually is. Common Morgans are about the same in any holder for example, but things like a Seated dollar or expensive coins unless it's one of the exceptions a discount should be expected Quote: All depends on which side of the table you're on.

So true to which I always say that I am more than happy to pay the PCGS price once it's crossed over

If you like the coin and agree with the grade. What is the problem.
You can always try to work out a better deal on the price.
Would you want to not get the coin, unless you save a few dollars?
If it was your coin and you were trying to sell it, would you want less for the coin should sell for, because it is in a ANACS holder?
In my opinion higher priced coins sell better in PCGS or NGC holders. But average priced coins sell very close to the same price.

Just checked out the link.
I am thinking that coin is a little over priced, even if it was in a PCGS holder.
In this case, if I was spending that much money, I would want a NGC holder.

Grade seems OK, appearance just average, not even tempted by the price.

If you like the coin and grade, contact the seller. Even if the listing doesn't say "Make Offer". I've contacted sellers many time and have made offers. The worst that can happen is he rejects your offer. The best, he accepts it or comes back with a counter offer.
