I took a closer look and I think I see "acid dates" on several. An acid dated buffalo looks generally like this. The coin date area a bit discolored or if the whole coin is soaked in vinegar it will look like this. Here's one of your coins best I could mess with it. A 1917 S. A key date. See the examples TNG posted The vinegar piece that he posted has a lighting problem which makes it look darker than it really would be. Notice how dark the 2X2 is. One thing about the vinegar treatment is it will bring out the rolling pressure lines (planchet striations) that often are not visible on the original coin. You can also see in TNG's images that the vinegar restored coin looks a lot nicer than the Nic-a-date coin. Even color no ugly blotchyness or dark staining. Report this Post to the Staff
