I've never been a fan of Ike and SBA. The Ike design just seems very bland to me. Another ugly one is the Lincoln Cent. I've just never really liked it.

Speaking of coin design ... did anyone else here submit a State Quarter design? I did, for Kansas, and I guess it was way too busy for the space - I included a grain elevator, sunflowers, airplane overhead, and a team of oxen and covered wagon. The winning design, of course, was merely a bison and a few sunflowers, and frankly I liked it better than mine, although the verbal description that accompanied the visual design was supposed to be the determining factor. Personally, the Texas and Connecticut quarters are my favorites, although a proof Kansas quarter really gets your attention with all that polished field behind the buff ... er, bison.

Quote: I, contrary to most, actually like the Anthony Dollars -- the eagle landing on the moon was a great design... A design stolen from the beloved Eisenhower dollar! Quote:Yeah, while the eagle landing on the moon was great, the Eisenhower dollar sure did it better. Because it was bigger and the Ike had it first! I might actually like the SBA more if it had its own original reverse design.

Front of the SBA dollar I really dislike. Back is okay.

I don't find anything about the Barber coins appealing. They seem dismal. WheatieFan

The 1793 flowing hair cents and the 1792 Half Disme. If you take away their historical significance, these are just some ugly coins. If they had minted them 100 years later no one would want them.

Whoa just the opposite here Snowman! The 1792 Half Disme is one of the most beautiful and historically significant coins ever minted in my opinion. Although it is sometimes considered a pattern it's my favorite coin! Somehow I forget to mention it in my earlier post . Besides having an interesting and awesome design, the coin is even rumored to be struck from George Washington's personal silver! -PP

Although there are some nice Barber pattern coins! Were they designed by the same Barber or a different person of the same name? I'd really like to know, if anyone can tell me.

The previous "Mercury" design, even worn is more attractive than a BU Roosevelt dime.

biokemist6, thanks for the link, where I found that there also was a William Barber, chief engraver 1869-79, so there were two Barbers. Now I see why some patterns are very appealing - they were done by the other Barber.
