Interesting. PCGS indicating #3110 is no longer a possible variety.

"The1922 No D Weak Reverse is no longer attributed at PCGS due to an extensive study on the 1922 cents by the ANA. This study found that all 1922 cents that had a weak reverse were simply Weak D's. Now all 1922's with a weak reverse are called 1922 Weak D (PCGS spec#3110)."

Anybody have a reference to the ANA study mentioned?

OK, well sounds like much ado about nothing. I wonder how many hours of committee meetings at PCGS were spent to come up with this?

Quite interesting, I'd like to read this study. We're talking about DECADES of collectors/dealers/experts history and knowledge being tossed into the garbage. Personally, I call BS.

Dealers trying to sell things for higher prices?

Plenty of varieties have been debunked.

,
But we can all be confident they took as much time and care with this decision as they did with the pictures shown in the following link (and the thread).

Let's not forget all the effort that PCGS put into grading this one.

Or we could be intellectually honest about how many do not think that is a pattern at all and Breen well.

Or we could just say whatever.

To me, this is an error coin, caused by die wear, over polishing, possibly a die clash.

No different than a "two feather" or "3 legged" Buffalo nickel.

So a bunch of "No D" just became "Weak D"? Did the D magically reappear?
