Hello everyone, So this past week I had picked up some coin rolls from the local bank and to my surprise I found 2 Indian head pennies! I also found a 1943 steel penny but I posted that one in the modern coin forum. I never thought I would find one of these and especially not 2! They are years 1901 and 1907 The 1907 seems to be in better condition but does have a little bit of green copper tarnish. Is there a safe way to get it off? I was just really excited about it and had to share with someone

Nice. I wonder if the advent of coinstar is getting these old coins back to the banks and then circulation after sitting in the bottom of jars for decades.

Thanks everyone! I called my dad and told him after and he was super jealous!
@jimbucks I had never thought of that and it would actually make a lot of sense if coin star was contributing to this.
@Greasy fingers I definitely will! There were approximately 5+ wheat pennies in there too so you may be right. I may be a newbie but I think this is a great start to my coin collecting adventure =)
@Errers and varietys how long have you been CRH? I picked up my first in the last month

That's a good start. When I used to CRH I would go to independent banks in farm communities and buy rolls. Lots of goodies that just circulated in those towns year after year.

What a great find! As to the green stuff - the best option would be Verdi-care. Our member Bad Thad makes and sells it. I think recently he had some listed int he sales area of the forum.

Verdi-Care is available at Wizard and on ebay often. I don't see anything improving these coins, acetone maybe a good start if only to remove organic gunk, it won't hurt them, soak them for awhile 10 minutes or so see if a Q-Tip lightly rolled over the coin dislodged any of it. A little work with a Q-Tip isn't going to damage these coins any more than they already are IMO.
