Beautiful coin. Full strike, EDS, great luster. The obverse has beautiful fields, but took a few knocks. There are noticeable bag marks on the second feather, two on the braid, and one on the chin. The obverse would be a solid 64. The reverse has an exceptional strike, with a full horn, full eye, full beard, clear split tail, and sharp hair on the head and top of the back. There is a scratch on the buffalo's flank and two hits on the front shoulder. The reverse would grade a solid 65.
With the full strike, the blended grade would likely bump to 65 with PCGS, but could go 66 with NGC. IMHO, it is a 65.
Very beautiful coin. This one would get people drooling.

Just out of curiosity, what's the point of this? Do you think it's undergraded? Do you want to resubmit? Do you disagree with the grade?

I didn't really want to say the point so I wouldn't bias the grader. I thought people enjoyed checking their grading skills against TPGs.

(I just wrote this on the other nickel). You all were basically right on the money. It's MS 65. The reason I put it up is because I thought it was better. I would have thought 66, so I'm trying to see what I was missing.
It's lustery, satiny, great detail. No wear that I can discern. What's it missing that stops it from grading higher?

Nothing is missing on the coin. It's a fantastic coin. It just has a few too many bag marks for the technical grade to go 66.
That said, my Buffalo set focuses on eye appeal, without regard to technical grade. I concentrated on getting the best strike with eye appeal, and didn't worry about grade. my set runs from EF-40 to MS-65. This coin is a better strike than the 1937 I have in my set.
Buffs, in particular, prove the old adage about buying the coin and not the slab.

I'm stumped on this one because of the weakness on hair braid and lower hair that meets braid . The luster on this coin is unsurpassed . The reverse in my opinion is outstanding and if rims were more squared off I would say there is a possibility that this Buffalo could be a proof . Sorry but I'm refraining from giving this coin a grade .
