Got this nickel in my change today. It appears to be a die ring,on the reverse, but in a slightly different location than photos posted by others in this forum and elsewhere. A full ring appears at the NW corner of the doorway with the 9:00 portion touching the frame and the 12:00 portion almost touching. Photography is not my forte so please let me know if better examples are needed.

Not sure what it is exactly, but I remember finding a few of these in a OBW roll I bought on ebay some time ago. http://goccf.com/t/304799

We have been calling them lathe lines. Your pics are fine!

Errers, I did see your post and your ring is just slightly to the right of my example. Another example posted by Mike Diamond with photo credit to Steve Young, shows a well defined ring North of your ring location along with a series of very faint rings that surround it. By the way, your photography is leaps and bounds ahead of mine!

Thank you Finn70! If you want to get better pictures, then I suggest you buying this USB Microscope, if you haven't already. 262361512520

The incuse marks on the coin are coin damage. Not seeing any rings like lathe lines?

The ring, I don't believe is incuse. I've seen 'lathing' on a couple of 96-p LMC, like a ripple effect. The ring on my example is one well defined ring slightly raised with a few light die scratches seen on my 30x loupe.

Coop, you're missing it. Look again please. It's in the middle of the doorway.

Coop, Yes there's a lot of contact marks and some slight noticeable wear on Jefferson's nose, eyebrow and cheekbone area, and on various areas of Monticello.
