@sarge, I'm leaning toward flattening due to circulation, but I'm interested to see what others think.

@Spence, ...... I don't think that is it because I think you would see more wear on Lincoln (hair and face would be more flat?) and more wear on the rim and probably on wheat grains (wouldn't be any visible?)

Possibly hit with a plastic hammer flattening the devices. The devices were flattened some how.

A thought just came to me. Anyone have a bench vise? Try putting two boards together with a damaged Wheat cent and squeeze it together to see how the devices look. That thought came to me as to the cause of this type of damage on a coin. So post before and after and even during images and I can add that information to my educational files. Thanks

I think it might be a Dryer Coin. See how the letters are fat and flattened? That's typical of Dryer Coins.

The reason disagree with the dryer theory is the rims are not rolled over.
