I finally fixed my lighting issue on my microscope and while I was looking at some pennies I came across this one, looks like there is a 7 under/beside the 7's but I'm not too sure. I do know these come out of the coin kind of like a hump so I don't think it is PMD.

I see what looks to be a sort of ridge between the sevens, but it doesn't follow the curve. Could it be some form of Die Deterioration?

I took a few more pictures, looks like the same thing for both 7's there looks to be another ridge after the last one.

I think you're correct, not PMD. Spruett is right, the ghost doesn't seem to follow the flow of the 7, so I'm guessing not Machine Doubling, so I too vote on some sort of Die Deterioration. This is one for the experts.

i managed to get a really good shot of the last 7 and I don't know but it looks doubled in the pic to me. Of course I could be wrong. Something is going on here one way or another.

Edit* If you look you can see it looks like there is another 7 directly underneath the last 7.

Im not too sure, I wasn't aware that DDD could form a separate, second distinctive number. The stem of the last 7 (on most 77's) is not as curved and is straighter than the 1st, the last 7 in this looks like its sitting right on top of another 7, notches and all witch I've never seen notches on a MD or DDD before so this would be a first for me. if you look at the last 7 under the front of it closer to the first 7 there is another notch tucked in there as well. The pictures get a bit clearer if you click on them and blow them up a bit.
