To realize the best value should I (or my heirs) wish to sell.
I would like to hear some discussion, get your thoughts.
Edit! I should also ask about crossing it or submitting for CAC.

I only put coins in Albums. So if it was mine, I'd crack it out and put in an Album.

It's nice. Personally I would leave it alone unless you want a different grader or want it in an album. I generally don't put super expensive coins in albums. This one to me is too nice for an album.

PCGS has a slight premium above NGC.IMHO,NGC tends to grade one point higher than PCGS though.

If you want the best value with intensions to sell then I would cross and submit for CAC . But bear in mind the only thing that might hold the bad girl back is the absence of mint luster . But as far as strike we all believe it should grade at 66 or better .

If it were mine, I'd leave it as is, i.e., not try to cross it.
A try for a CAC sticker would do no harm.

MS65 is a pretty nice grade. I would leave it. I wouldn't risk the TPG second guessing the original grade. CAC sounds nice IMO.

If you want to try for a 66, you could always try crossing it over at PCGS with a minimum grade of 65. You'll at least get the FH designation, although I'm not sure it adds much value since nearly all 1917-P Ty 1's are FH. And although it's a fantastic coin, the muted luster may limit the grade. Agree that CAC would be a good option.

If it weren't in the grade I'd crack it out. As to a cross-over, absolutely. I see no problem in a same grade return with the exception of that Full Head designation. Even if, as mentioned, it came back an MS64 FH it would bring about the same amount as the NGC straight 65.

Present trends say PCGS and CAC would bring the highest value. If TPGs update in the future to a system supplying a verifiable and non-subjective product (no matter how many times a coin is submitted it would always get the same grade based upon scientifically designed systems of scanning and grading), then the present mindset may not be around.

I would leave it in its original holder, it appeared to be a Dec. 1987 first generation holder, can you upload a pic of the back of the holder. CAC would be a bonus if you get a gold bean.

A Gold Bean would put me over the moon.

But as others have said, the luster (or lack thereof) could hold it back. It is mine, though I have not got my paws on it quite yet. I am so eager to see it, to see what that luster looks like in hand.

Thank all you guys for the replies.

I would cross to PCGS. Believe you have an MS65 that should have a FH designation as well.

Exceptional example.

Thank you for sharing

I don't think there's gold bean potential but if it did happen tip of the hat for sure. That said if you want to be extra cautious but pay more send it to CAC first, gold bean keep as is. Anything else try a cross
