Hello community, it seems like forever since I've been on this forum! Feels good to be back here. It seems like a numismatic community broadly unaware of these US coinage varieties is a great place to cherrypick. I'll post full pics when I receive it in the mail, but so far it looks like a solid VF specimen ... but with a HOLE next to liberty's head. (Ever seen one of these holed before? I couldn't come across another on the internet.) Anyways, how does it look? Is this it? Have I struck gold for about four hundred bucks? Thanks!

Once you have it in-hand and we see full pics of both sides of the coin you'll get some good advice.
Honestly, the hole will hurt it. That is for sure.

The date and mintmark look okay so far. Do you have the seller's photos of the rest of the coin?

I didn't think it was a 'bargain' for 400 dollars to be honest. But I felt the need to get that one in hand, get it graded and give it proper treatment for the popular rarity it is. It's hard to believe this one ended up here in Korea, holed and unnoticed, after so many years. I saw this one up for about 20 USD on a Korean numismatic forum along with well worn Washington silver quarters. Unfortunately one guy was quicker than me and I thought he had cherrypicked it. I emailed him, thinking he'd be aware of the variety, and offered him about 400 USD which would've sounded like a reasonable offer, and he accepted. But to think of it now, I doubt that he was knowledgeable enough to be conscious of what he bought, because he's one of those 'hoarders' not collectors who would gladly purchase overpriced cull US silver coinage and various foreign coins listed on the forum. So at the end it's not really a cherrypick. But I feel happy enough to have 'discovered' another specimen of this elusive variety in the most unexpected place! I'll update with high-resolution pics when I get it in hand, but these are the seller's original pics.

Looks genuine, but I don't consider $400 a steal, to be honest.

I don't know what the hole will do to hurt overall value, but it's definitely a good strong date. I came across one on Craig's list here in Houston, with environmental damage, and the guy was asking like $6500. Probably a never for my collection.

$20 would have been a real steal! If it is confirmed to be genuine, it might be worthwhile getting an expert repair done, then slabbed as a genuine holed and repaired coin.

I agree, 400 dollars isn't that much of a steal for the coin it is. :( Any opinion on the coin, its value, authenticity, condition will be appreciated! Thanks guys! :)

I think $409 was a fairly decent price. It appears to be a nice EF quality coin. I'd price this as a VF-20 or more because ignoring the hole, it is rather attractive.

Looks genuine to me as does the hole. Fortunately, the hole is not thru Miss Liberty's head.
My suggestion is consider getting an expert evaluation for a "professional" repair. (Search online for "coin restoration service") The hole can be filled in with 90% coin silver and the lettering that is damaged on the reverse can be reengraved. The repair can be smoothed down on the obverse to blend in the metals. The repair should help with eye appeal but the coin will always be a details coin. That is a fact that is not going away.
My guess is a repair will cost several hundred dollars and will take a couple of months to complete.
I think you did ok. If you like the coin is really all that matters. Good luck!

Quote: I wonder if someone could actually fix that Yes. At least the hole is in a good spot and is not thru her head. If it were mine it would already be out for repair! To me, that coin is definitely a candidate for a repair effort!
