A "Pating" error 1984-S Lincoln Memorial cent is up for auction at Heritage. This looks like the 2nd time around for the coin as it sold for just $80.50, including buyer's premium, back in 2008. While I'm sure that a linear plating bubble is much more rare on a proof, it doesn't seem to be that interesting of an error. I won't be bidding on this one, but I'll be tracking it just to see how much it goes for. The auction ends on 4.15.20 and is currently going for $6 + $19 for the buyer's premium. What are your thoughts on this one? Should we change our feedback when a member post a coin with plating issue? Do you think of it as an error? I don't consider these errors. I feel it is more the quality of the planchets they are producing that caused this problem. But, that's just my opinion. It is however uncommon to see them on proofs, so I can understand a market for these.

They appear to be heading in a not-so-good direction by slabbing, and calling, manufacturing anomalies "errors".
But hey, it's grading fees that pay the bills!

"Pating" does not engender trust in this slab, it reminds me of scam emails with widespread "misspeelins".

I was wondering what it said on the site about this one: https://www.PCGS.com/cert/60161792I wondered if they misspelled that word on the slab, but the paperwork for it says the same thing.

What a joke! It's not an error. Just a poor quality coin.
Errers and Varietys.

Wow, unreal! Not an error, just a good grading service going downhill.

The holder's pretty old, so I wouldn't be too skeptical yet.

Everyone has these. It doesn't add value to the coin. I wondered if the DCam was what made it worth something. But not even that would warrant grading it. It doesn't either. Best to learn before you buy.
