I have no idea how this one ended up north of the border, but it came to me via a junk bag of coins that were mostly garage job errors.

I got this some time ago, but I waited to hear confirmation from both Fred Weinberg and Jon Sullivan that this was indeed a rare edge strike. They both agreed that this is what I had.

Despite the rarity, they seem to sell fairly reasonably priced from what I could find on Heritage Auctions archives.

Anyhow, I thought I would share it here, before I send it off to PCGS.

As most everyone here has mentioned, this is not an error most of have had an opportunity to see.
Fantastic find and thanks for sharing this rare error with us. Love the edge lettering like a Presidential dollar ... almost.

I really don't see how it's possible for this coin to be struck in this manner with out the assistance of an employee of the mint holding it in place. Yes I believe it's real but mint assisted error. IMHO

Ever seen a fold over strike? This is what happens when the planchet doesn't fold but instead goes shooting out of the press as the dies try to strike it.

Actually I've never seen one. If anyone has a picture of one I would love to see it. I've seen fold over lamination strikes but never saw just a fold over strike. Thanks

Copper-plated zinc, you can see some of the zinc core exposed on the struck edges.

What a great error! I've only seen 4 or 5 edge strikes and this is the best I've seen!
