Hmm maybe but thats one he'll of coincidence that it takes the exact shape of an S and in that exact spot? Comon even I can see that part that is sticking out from under the bottom of the D and inside the D cavity which are clearly not rotting and its a very specific shape.. I'll hold for a second opinion

It is a small date with zinc rot. OMM's stopped a long time ago, 1955.

That would be one heck of a large (S) mint mark ...Sorry but IMO PMD aka split plating (common in that area) and zinc rot...keep looking and asking, good luck...

IMO, classic zinc rot.

If you're uncomfortable with the response you're getting on this thread, please, feel free to submit your pics to noted Lincoln Cent authorities and seek their input. If you live near a reputable coin shop/dealer, take the coin in for an in-hand assessment.

Its not a maybe, its a for sure. Its just zinc rot. A split plating exposed the zinc. The shape is from a plating bubble open from the rot

There just aren't giant sideways "S"'s on coins. You have been given sound advice as to what your coin is experiencing: post mint damage in the form of split plating, which is exposing the zinc core which results in the dreaded "zinc rot'"

The distortion on the mintmark is from a damaged punch. Many of the mintmarks that year look similar to what you are seeing. Not a premium for this.
