Hey all 1st off Glad your back up and running...and with this Penny I was at 1st thinking PMD or someone shot it with A BB gun or someone dropped 2 of those weighted bbs on it (I forget what's called my apologies) but under closer examination I don't think it's any of those things it has Cuds or sync zits (if you will)inside the crevises and the crevices arent perfectly circular ...anyhow if it wasnt for the little things (inside) I'd definitely say PMD anyhow...let me know your thoughts. THANK YOU!

@SG, yes it is interesting how much that looks like a backwards letter B. Rather than being a mint error, this looks like three gouges (with the third one being on the 7 in the date) all in a line. Most often this happens when a reeded edge coin like a quarter impacts the face of a coin with its edge.

That is what is called reeding. The edge of a reeded coin came in contact with your coin and caused what you're seeing. PSD

Looks like coincident hits that just happen to look like the number 8.

IMO, just PMD that took the look/shape of a B

Probably not from a reeded edge, but it has been hit by something. No way to say what.

I agree with all above. It is simply a contact mark, taken a hard hit from a teethed object and is considered damage! regardless of what caused it, it did not come out of mint looking that way! You have posted some good close up images, just look closely and you will notice how the metal has been pushed up and elevated to one side more so than the other.

I believe the mark above 1979 is the result a hit--seeing pushed metal, favoring one side.

Quote: did anyone even like my crappy Frankenquarter That one is also a contact mark and most likely hit by another Quarter's Reeded edge
