I am trying to decide if I should buy US Mint commemoratives in their original packaging with the accompanying Certificate of Authenticity OR a Third Party Graded commemorative coin.

Which of the two has greater appeal in the long term? Which has greater resale value in the long term? (I would resell the coin to make room for future additions).

Thank you in advance.

if you're buying commemoratives to hold value, original packaging isn't usually available.

Either way, it's about the coin, not the packaging / slab.

I've picked up a few commeratives from my local coin shop. The vast majority of modern commeratives aren't worth much more than melt. So neither the coins slabbed nor the case make a difference, they haven't gained much in value with the large majority losing value.

Neither one. Most commemorative coins are available to buy at a less price maybe a year or so after the mint releases them. Very few hold value, and even fewer rise in value.

And as has been said, its about the coin, not the package.
