This Thread mainly pertains to older collectors who have been collecting and buying coins as far back as 30,40,50 years ago . My question is : What coin or coins plural, did you ever have a chance to acquire at a fair price back then but you decided not too , And now wish you had because now the price is at least 350% or more then it was back then . For me it was back in 1975 I was offered Four 1909-S Lincolns in F-12 for $100 .I knew if I had made him an offer I could have gotten the lot for $85. Still kicking my butt .  |

I should have bought more of the pre-1834 US gold type coins when they were $1500 to $3000 each.

"The Coins Jesse James Never Got", the GSA CC dollars sale in the summer of '73. CC dollars for less than $10 and I didn't buy a single one.

With all seriousness. Thinking back, I would have been happy keeping "ALL" that silver I had in my pockets after collection day from my paper-route in the mid/late 60's! I had a 125 paper route. I had so much change in my pockets, I couldn't peddle my bike! My pants would literally be falling down from the weight! Edited by USSID18

I got back into actively collecting in 2000 when gold was about $400 an ounce. Did I buy enough? Nope, of course not....  |

I shoulda bought more higher grade Barber design dimes, quarters and halves. More 1875 and 1875 CC Twenty Cent Pieces and early half and large cents. |

While working for a brick & mortar coin shop in 1972, I purchased a roll of 1880-S GEM DMPL Morgans for $67. Each coin was 65, 66, 67 by todays standards. I kept the roll about two and decided I didn't want it and sold it back to the owner. Ha gave me my $67 back for it. Still kicking myself to this day when I see what just one coin sells for now.
This was not the only big one I let get away over the years.

In 1986 the US Mint started selling ASE. My dad and I picked a few even and got them every year even when silver jumped to over $20 an ounce and then in the 90's we stopped collecting. I restarted in 2006. The ones I was missing I purchased this year, what I regret is instead of buying one or 2, not buying a roll especially when silver was around $12 an ounce. |

Put the leftovers in the microwave and turned it on. Walked eight feet to the drawer for silverware and noticed the paper towel dispenser was empty. Walked to the top of the stairs, another twelve feet, leading downstairs to where the supplies are stored only to stand there momentarily before returning to the kitchen. About that time the microwave dinged and reminded me why I was standing at the stairs. But to answer the question, that over priced 2012 Silver Proof Set I missed ordering at the time. In 1994 while working as a tour guide, I was on a European tour that included a day in Paris. Our bus driver parked on the Left Bank near the French Mint. I went in to the mint shop during my lunch hour and saw they had 1994 French BU sets for about 20 euros, so I bought one for my collection.
I should have bought several. When collecting Fifth Republic coins really took off in the lead-up to the Euro, French collectors realised just how scarce the 1994 set was. It went up to about €950 in the early 2000s. It has fallen back since, but I could still have made a great profit if only I'd bought a few extra sets at the time!

Another blunder for me is back in 1976 I could have bought common date OBW rolls of Mercury dimes for $125 per roll . Today they're virtually non existent . |

sold some beautiful 2 1/2 & $1 gold pieces in the 70's that were at least MS65. not a good move. I think I got $80 for the 2 1/2 piece and $120 for the $1. should-a would-a bought more high end gold then |

When I was 11 a friend offered to sell me his collection (about 200 coins) for $10. I think he made the offer knowing I would not do it, as $10 was a lot to me back then. If I had, my 7070 would have been off to a better and sooner start.  |
