I've found several in the past that weren't quite fully floating, but this one looks to be it.. picked off the ground several nights ago: well worn from circulation, but still in decent shape. worth holding. please feel free to post pix of your LMC floaters if you have them!

All these years collecting and I've honestly never heard of this before. Petty cool.

Very interesting. I had not heard of this either. Is that the result of die wear/polishing?

I've seen these before, they don't have much, if any, of a premium. It's just either minor die polishing or a Greaser.

I've read that these are especially prevalent 1969-1971, but can be found on other years. it's just one of those minor LMC error/varieties I have always watched for, though I honestly never thought i'd pick one off the pavement.

I have about 4 or 5 of these. All early 70's.

It is from die over polishing. Sometimes the you can see a flying roof. or missing 'FG' or sometimes a missing statue. But they are die event. Nothing was omitted during the hub process. It was on the die when it was fresh. It was polished off. Just a die event. Not a variety.

I have a few Lincoln's from 1974 where Lincoln's neck is polished off...I guess they could be called floating head.

thanks, coop, for posting those graphics. glad to see I understood correctly that the cent suffered from over-polished die, giving the roof that 'floating' look. i have an '83 LMC with over-polished neckline, diminished Y & over-polished lapel/tie area, but the eye & mouth areas are not as over-polished as what's on the next graphic. those diminished facial features sure are striking.

Yes, 1969 and 1970 are the best years for finding floating roof coins, and across all mint marks but Denver seemed to produce the most. They carry a small premium, but even in MS-64 or better you generally won't see them go for more than five bucks. And they have to have both roof supports fully gone! Yours does, and is a great example well worth keeping.
Appreciate the excellent photos as well. Very nice find.
