They don't look like mint errors to me, looks like a sloppy Chinese fake! The 09-s is a joke too.

Both horribly done fakes. IHC is up to to $405.... never ceases to amaze me. Looks like Liberty caught something on the IHC

Why are they not in TPG holders and I always stay away when all bidders are " Private listing-bidders" do others do the same...why "private" in the first place?

Quote:Why are they not in TPG holders A number of legit possibilities: 1. TPGs are optional to those who collect just coins and not coin+slab+label (nothing wrong in either hobby focus). 2. The coins are fake and the seller knows it? 3. The coins are fake and seller does not know it, but neither has the seller experience enough in the hobby to have run into TPG marketing? 4. The seller knew about TPGs and just thought it not worth their time/money to pad someone else's pockets also (not knowing coin+slab+label buyers are willing to fork out more cash). 5. The seller thought listing the coins in this manner (if they thought they were legit and high grade) would appeal to enough bidders who look at coins instead of coin+label+slab? The fact is that there are a lot of people out there who do not have the term "slab" automatically come to mind simultaneously with the word "coin." Again...there is nothing wrong either way. The one observation I do have concerning the two views is that people enjoying the slab+label+coin hobby, at least in my experience, tend to be more surprised to find out many collectors do not subscribe to slab+label+coin collecting. They do look kind of good enough for a fake coin album though.

It doesn't help much to report fakes to ebay ; they simply do not care. I saw a dreadful fake Seated dollar go for nearly $300 after reporting it on Day-1. That is just the most recent ; they do nothing about any of the others I've reported. Caveat emptor.

For the 1877, the giveaway is the strong N in "ONE". Unless it was a proof, pretty much all business strike 1877 IHCs had a weak lower N in "ONE". Another warning is the general lack of detail relative to apparent wear; this is common in relatively unsophisticated copies from transfer dies, which is what the obverse looks like to me.
