The nickel is a Buffalo nickel picturing a bison. So going to a coin show or dealer and asking for a bison nickel is likely going t get a strange look. And furthermore I just can not seem to find a section in COINFACTS for BISON nickels.

Looks like you're the only one hfjacinto! In your defense, bison would be proper, but...... you know how I voted.

Quote: The term buffalo is sometimes considered to be a misnomer for this animal, and could be confused with "true" buffalos, the Asian water buffalo and the African buffalo. However, the name buffalo is listed in many dictionaries as an acceptable name for American buffalo or bison

And here I thought the "Cents not Pennies" folk were the only ones taking their pedantry to the nth degree. Quote: I've always called them Indian Head nickels, so I didn't vote. There is also a conversation regarding the accuracy of that nomenclature.

Now to throw a twist in. I step between coins and paper money in my collecting. So I find it interesting the 1901 $10 note is called a Bison note. We are consistently inconsistent in what we call things it would seem

What about the so called Barber coins? He's clearly not the person on the obverse of those coins.
