Quote: Can someone enlighten me/others as to what (if anything) is special about 1997 D cents? I don't know of anything special about the 1997-D, but there 1997-P with a doubled earlobe.

Jason - I've got one of those "silver" pennies, although it's a 1977D. When I drop it, it rings like copper, not silver. I heard somewhere that if you heat an older cent hot enough, the zinc in the mixture will come to the surface and change the color of the coin. I don't know if that's true or not, although I plan to try it someday.
BTW - nice box.

New here, but had to tell about my great pull! Great for me anyway. I ran by and picked up $5 worth from my branch bank to go through and found a 1905 Indian Head cent! I had been bummed out because I hadn't even had any luck finding any wheats and then BAM! Dark color, but the coin is in excellent shape! I will post a pic at a later time. Thanks for reaing my rants.

The silvery looking cent is probably a coating of mercury that school kids used to do in science class. John1

I was going through a box with my sons today. The older one is just interested enough to want to finish his LMC set--he only needed a '68-S. The younger one is really into it. The younger one found a '68-S, which he gave to his brother. A little while later, the older one found a 1909, which he gave to his brother.

Pocket change, I have one of those panamas in mint condition. It's one of the prettiest coppers I have! Nice find.

Here's my "silver-cent" Picked up a brinks box this afternoon, and the teller mentioned that someone had brought in $5 in wrapped coin. I bought those as well. I found this in one of the rolls.
