Finally getting around to taking some pics of the Buff set I'm building. This will be my 4th set, but my 1st slabbed set. Everything else is in Dansco albums. Every ANACS slabbed coin was picked up in two different lots, which I scored very inexpensively (in the grand scheme of things). I took advantage of one of the ANACS promos and got them all slabbed. My goal is to eventually upgrade a number of those, primarily the Phili dates. This will end up being a long term project, as a number of what I have left, and grades I'm looking at will get pricey quick! All are being housed in a binder using the Lighthouse ENCAP slab pages.

Not gonna lie I completely misread that 1913 T1 as MS61, that's insane. MS67 is just incredible. Talk about an insane quality coin. The rest of the set is great as well.

I had originally considered going for a MS67 just so I could have both of my Buffalo nickel type coins in 67 but the $500 jump I couldn't justify. It's one thing to spend $500 more to go from AU to Unc, but to go from 66 CAC to 67, I just can't see that being worth it.

@ Grape. Totally agree, while the 13 T1 is one of my favorites, especially a well struck example, I don't think I'd ever pay 67 money. I got this one in a 66 holder hoping it would upgrade, which it did!

My goal is to complete the set, probably upgrade the ANACS Philis as I go, and then once complete, start upgrading some of the D and S ANACS slabs.

Great set. Some coins have a nice cameo look to them (1928-D, 1934-D, 1937-S, 1938-D).

@Ty2020b, that is a fantastic set!

I believe that the hardest 20th Century collection is a Buff set ticking off these four criteria:
Matching EDS/EMDS die states,
Well struck,
AU or better, and
minimal clashing and die polishing.

I've been at this for about half a century and have never been able to complete a date-and-mint set meeting those criteria for any of my clients. Even excluding the 1916 DDO and 1918-D/1917-D DDO, and multiple amputated leg Buffs, some dates are impossible to find matching the four criteria. Notorious condition rarities like 1921-S and 1926-S are set stoppers. Notoriously poorly struck dates like 1924-D and 1926-S are set stoppers. Other dates are almost exclusively known with mismatched dies. Other dates have been clashed and polished to death, and finding any non-polished-die example is a Herculean feat.

Keep up the hunt. You are well on the way.

I'd love to see updates on this thread as you continue your hunt. Go get 'em!
