What's happening here? Is this a stain?

It's just an ugly stain. Looking at LI closer it looks like probably took a hit. Not real sure. I'll keep it anyways. Thanks for looking. RobO

I do not know if a dip (5-20 seconds) into PURE acetone would help with the stain or not. Acetone cannot hurt your coin, and since it does not remove surface metal, it is not "cleaning" so won't take away value.

I bet it would completely take that stain away!

I don't think Verdi-Care would do anything on a stain. Perhaps BadThad could weigh in here, but I believe stains are sketched into the surface and cannot be removed, but I could be wrong (it wouldn't be the first time).

Thanks for suggestions but already tried acetone before pictures. Didn't touch it.

Try verdicare on your '55 and post the after photos. In my experience, verdicare can do many things pretty well--but not everything. Can't wait to see the results. Thanks.
