Well this is certainly a first. Around a month ago I sent off a package to go to PCGS, it contained 2 submission forms and 22 coins in total. After sitting around in their vault for 3 weeks it finally was marked received, however only the first form, which contained 4 silver eagles and Roosevelt dime.
The second form which contained a mix of coins was not marked as received. This presented an issue, as more than half of that form weren't my coins, but coins belonging to a member of CCF that I had submitted for them, so really not good. I contacted them 2 days ago and they said they'd look into it.
Today I got an email from PCGS Security stating that the form said that there was a 1959 Lincoln Cent, however they never received that coin, screenshot of the email below.
Problem is, I know that I sent that coin, I have a video of the coin in question that I took August 1st. I went through my entire collection and inventory, a few thousand coins mind you, and it is nowhere to be found. Given that the coin is on the form, and is not in my possession, I can conclude that it was sent to them. I put the video that I took of the coin below.

So my question is, if I can prove the coin at least existed, what is my recourse? What should I do? It's not an exceptionally expensive coin, but still, I paid for it. Thoughts, anyone?
Curious situation, is there any way the coin could have fallen out of it's flip during transit? The first thing I would do is ask for the footage of the package being opened so you can confirm yourself that the coin didn't enter their possession(at least not knowingly). Regardless, it seems unlikely that either a PCGS or postal worker would steal one coin from the package, especially a coin that appears to be fairly inexpensive. It's likely a mistake on either your end or PCGS's end.
This is a tough one. It's your word against theirs. If the video of the opening and inventorying does not show anything amiss then the coin either was not in the shipment to begin with or got separated somewhere during the ride.
If it was mine, I would wanna see the COMPLETE unedited video of the opening and inventorying. If they refuse to share it with you that tells you a whole lot.
Doesn't PCGS place individual customer 2X2's into paper envelopes during the receiving process? If so, is it possible two items made it into one of those envelopes?
That's terrible. I can't imagine you accidentally leaving out a coin while packaging a submission. But unfortunately, they have more proof if they have video of them opening the package. I would at least ask for you to review the video personally so you can see if there was something different about how the coins arrived. I hope it turns up!
Man. What an unfortunate position to be in. I'd say that I'm with most others and see if you could review their security footage and possibly see something they are missing.
"Crap in a hat" as my grandfather would have said.
Yeah, so the update is that they basically said that we're at an impasse. They had an independent audit of the security footage apparently and it turned up nothing but I don't have the coin. Basically they're not willing to admit guilt and because I have no evidence it was in there I'm SOL.
