So while I have a decent paper money collection one area that I have never ventured into is the national banknotes. I found one of ebay from my hometown and I'm sure it has to be pretty rare considering it's still a fairly small town even today.

Is there a way of knowing the rarities of these notes? How much would you value this note at?

Thanks for any input and education you may provide. Here is a picture of the note I'm talking about.

I don't have access to the bank note database so I can't tell you rarity. But it's a nice note.

Considering the year and condition, I would say around $400/$500 but if it's a rare note it could be multiples of that.

Very tough bank, with only 11 notes known in the old Kelly census - perhaps there are a few more today.

Hometown notes are something to treasure. I still have the 1st hometown note I bought from dealer Curtis Iverson almost 50 some odd years ago. People tend to hang on to the hometown nationals and they become family heirlooms that get passed down.

The pictured note you posted about has been sold 2x in the last 8 years by Heritage. It sold for around 6300$ in 2012 and for around 2400$ in 2019.

Value today in my opinion would be around 1500 to 2000$. Never hurts to make offers on tough notes that you want! You may not get the chance to buy it again for a few years either! Been there, done that!

My only concern with the note is that the signatures are unusually dark and may have possibly been retraced. I would think that the TPG would have caught it though.

Good luck in your "National";journey!

I use the Kelly book. Prices are off but helps with the general pop count.
Nice note!

The older Standard Catalog I have (22nd edition) has a rarity index that scores every back on a scale of 1 (most common) to 6 (most rare). This back is listed as a 5 for both large size and small size notes. Not sure what year they stopped doing that, but my new one (343th edition) does not have it.

How in the world did that note lose 2/3 of its value ($4K) in only 7 years ? The only thing I can think of is maybe it was overpriced to begin with. I'd be sick to my stomach.
