found this nickel today, 1984p on one side 1993p on the other. no way this could be real but whoever did this did a very good job. cant see any weld marks anywhere. how and why would anyone do this then put it in circulation? it is a piece of art. I hope it is an error but I dont think so. weight is 5.6 gr.

This is what's known as a Magician's coin. Heads I win, Heads you lose. No way this is a mint error, not possible, sorry. Cute novelty piece, but these are fairly readily available I'm afraid, and sell for only a few bucks.

Looks like the '84 may have been machined out and the '93 skinned down to fit inside it.

merclover is correct, it's a Magician's coin. The coin is hollow. Bounce it off a granite countertop or ceramic tile floor, it will probably open.

@suipak - That's what I said - '93 inside the machined-out '84.

Look around the edge of the 93 side and, when you are used to these, there is an obvious seem around the edge which shows where this coin was pressed into the hollowed out core of the other coin.

Yes a fun find and worth saving as a novelty.

This first one was crudely made with two different years and twice the weight.

This one someone put more work in on. At least they used the same year, but different mints.
They also ground off just enough weight from each coin, so now it's the exact weight of a normal penny.
